Senate President Godswill Akpabio indicated on Tuesday that the Appropriation Committee might submit its report on the 2025 budget for review and possible approval by the Senate on Wednesday.
While presiding over the plenary, Akpabio mentioned that lawmakers could begin deliberations on the N54.2 trillion budget as soon as it is presented.
He also noted the sparse attendance in the chamber, explaining that many senators were busy in committee sessions finalizing the budget in preparation for its submission, either later that day or the following day.
He made these comments following a debate on a bill proposing the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture in Abak, Akwa Ibom State.
Addressing his colleagues, he emphasized the need to conclude the discussion swiftly so they could focus on finalizing the 2025 appropriation bill.
He explained, “You will observe that some of our colleagues are not in the Chamber because of the required final touches on the 2025 Appropriation bill, report of which will possibly be laid before us tomorrow (Wednesday) or next tomorrow (Thursday) this week.”
“So we need to close early to allow for collective efforts in that direction for final consideration and passage of the 2025 appropriation bill.”
