Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has publicly declared that he is undergoing psychiatric treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
This announcement comes in the wake of the Ogun State Police Command declaring him wanted for allegedly assaulting officials from the state’s Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
The incident in question occurred during an enforcement operation at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu, Ota, where town planners TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi were reportedly attacked. According to reports, the officials encountered Portable’s father at a location believed to be owned by the singer.
After identifying themselves and requesting the building’s approved plan, they were informed that Portable was unavailable. Subsequently, Portable allegedly arrived with a group of nine armed individuals and assaulted the officials, who sustained injuries before escaping and reporting the incident to the police.
Following the attack, nine suspects were arrested, but Portable evaded capture and has since been declared wanted by the police. In response, Portable took to social media to assert his innocence and disclose his mental health status.
He stated, “I fear government. I am a federal government liability. Then I’m a madman; I have medications that I usually take. You can confirm from Aro Hospital. I have a card that certifies me as one of their patients.”
He further emphasized his commitment to helping others, saying, “I am from Abeokuta, and they are taking care of me there. I am not a thief; I help people around me without even looking at their background.”
Portable also suggested that his current legal troubles might be politically motivated, alleging that he was targeted because he wore a vest featuring the image of Senator Adeola Solomon, popularly known as Yayi. He claimed, “Some persons are attacking me spiritually because I bought their lands and houses.”
The Ogun State Police Command has urged the public to assist in locating Portable, warning that anyone found harboring him will face legal consequences. As of now, Portable remains at large, and the situation continues to develop.
