In a swift and coordinated operation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully rescued Chief Superintendent of Police Modestus Ojiebe, who was abducted by armed men along the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja. The officer, who endured a traumatic experience, has been safely reunited with his family, bringing relief to his loved ones and colleagues.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the rescue in a statement on Monday. She explained that the Divisional Police Officer of Dawaki Division acted immediately upon receiving a distress call, mobilizing a patrol team and alerting all police checkpoints and key entry and exit points into the FCT. This rapid response led to the successful rescue of CSP Ojiebe on the same night of the abduction.
The incident unfolded late Sunday night when Ojiebe’s Toyota Corolla broke down near Dei-Dei Barracks. As he attempted to repair the vehicle, an ash-colored Mercedes-Benz carrying four armed men pulled up behind him. The assailants searched and robbed Ojiebe and his wife, taking their mobile phones and ATM cards. Upon discovering Ojiebe’s police identity card, they forcibly took him into their vehicle and sped off, leaving his wife and their car behind.
The FCT Police intensified stop-and-search operations at various entry and exit points in a bid to track down the suspects. According to the police, the abductors abandoned Ojiebe and fled into the bush in Garaku, Nasarawa State, where he was eventually rescued. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice.
Security expert Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the incident on social media, highlighted the bravery and quick thinking of the police team that ensured Ojiebe’s safe return. The police have assured the public that investigations are continuing to ensure the perpetrators are held accountable.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement officers and the importance of swift, coordinated responses to such emergencies. The FCT Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
For CSP Ojiebe and his family, the ordeal has ended with a grateful reunion, but the search for justice continues as the police work tirelessly to apprehend those responsible for this brazen act of criminality.
