The pupils and staff of Apostolic Faith Group of Schools in Emure Ekiti, who were abducted last week, have been released.
The Ekiti State Police Command confirmed the news on Sunday, stating that the release occurred in the early hours of the day.
According to Sunday Abutu, the spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, all the abductees have been freed, but unfortunately, the bus driver did not survive the ordeal.
The victims, comprising six pupils, three teachers, and the bus driver, were abducted while returning from Eporo-Ekiti on Monday night.
The incident led to widespread concern and calls for urgent action to secure the safe release of the hostages.
The Ekiti State Government official in Emure Ekiti, who confirmed the release of the abductees, expressed relief at their safe return.
“The abductees are here, the parents and family members are here. I will give you details shortly,” the official stated.
Upon their release, officials from the state Ministry of Health were present to provide medical attention to the victims. They were subsequently transported to Ado Ekiti, the state capital, for further examination and care.
