Following the killing of five soldiers by gunmen in Abia State, Governor Alex Otti is currently holding a closed-door meeting with security chiefs and members of the Security Advisory Council.
The meeting is taking place at his residence in Umuehim, Nvosi, Isialangwa South Local Government Area of the state.
Although details of the meeting are scarce, it is believed to be in response to the recent attack on troops by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The attack occurred at Obikabia junction checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Area, where troops were deployed to maintain peace and protect citizens.
The meeting comes amidst tensions in the region, with IPOB issuing a sit-at-home order across the south-east to mourn “our heroes and heroines” who died in the civil war between 1967 and 1970.
The development has raised concerns about the security situation in Abia State and the surrounding regions.
