Mr. Ademola, the father of Super Eagles’ standout player Ademola Lookman, has expressed his elation following his son’s exceptional performance in Nigeria’s journey to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final.
After the Super Eagles secured a hard-fought victory over Angola in the quarterfinals on Friday, Mr. Ademola, speaking to journalists, struggled to find words to capture his overwhelming emotions.
He emphasized the significance of the win for Nigeria and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to clinch the AFCON title.
“It’s an understatement if I say I’m happy; in fact, I’m overwhelmed. I’m so happy; at least for Nigeria to win this game, it’s an advantage for us to play in the next game, and I can assure you that we are going to win,” Mr. Ademola remarked, his face beaming with pride.
Ademola Lookman has been a pivotal figure in the Super Eagles’ recent success, showcasing his talent with three crucial goals in the team’s last two matches.
His contributions, particularly his adeptness in capitalizing on passes from teammates Victor Osimhen and Calvin Bassey, have propelled Nigeria’s advancement in the tournament.
The victory over Angola holds special significance for Nigerian football enthusiasts, considering the historical context of Nigeria’s rivalry with Cameroon, who defeated the Eagles at the same venue to clinch their maiden AFCON title in 1984.
Looking ahead, Nigeria awaits the outcome of the quarterfinal clash between South Africa and Cape Verde to determine their semi-final opponent.
