Senate President Godswill Akpabio playfully reprimanded Senator Osita Ngwu during a ministerial screening on Wednesday after the lawmaker praised the beauty of Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, one of the nominees for Minister of State Foreign Affairs.
Bianca, along with six other ministerial nominees, presented her credentials before the Senate for screening.
After her presentation, Akpabio invited senators to ask questions, at which point Ngwu, who represents Enugu West District in the 10th National Assembly, began by applauding the nominee’s appearance.
“Mr. President, the beautiful nominee standing before us,” Ngwu started, only to be interrupted by Akpabio.
“Restrict yourself to the resume. Forget this word beautiful,” Akpabio interjected with a laugh, adding, “She didn’t put in the CV that she is beautiful.”
The exchange drew laughter from the Senate chamber before Ngwu continued to commend Bianca’s qualifications and competence for the position.
Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the widow of the late Biafran leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, was being considered for the post of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, a role she is widely regarded as being well-suited for, given her previous diplomatic experience.
