Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has reacted to Thursday victory of former head of state, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari as the Presidential flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress, (APC).
The governor, who reportedly took to his twitter handle to air his view, said Buhari is the change that Nigeria urgently needs in order to move forward, Vanguard reports.
Amaechi said that the emergence of Buhari also represented the emancipation of Nigerians from the shackles of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
“Our emancipation from the evil shackles of PDP is near. APC with Gen. Buhari represents the change we all earnestly seek. APC+GMB=CHANGE,” Amaechi said.
It was gathered that the governor is one of the names being mentioned as a likely running mate to Buhari, though the choice of a running mate for the APC presidential candidate is the next item of interest.
However, President Goodluck Jonathan has already named his vice as his running mate, putting to rest suggestions that he intended to drop him for one of the Northern governors.
Jonathan reportedly described Sambo as a loyal, committed and dedicated gentleman, who has been standing by him despite all odds.
It would be recalled that in the keenly contested primary in Lagos, which lasted about 48 hours, Buhari won with a clear lead of 3430 votes, while other aspirants like Kano state Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso came second with 974 votes followed by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who got 954 votes.
However, now that Buhari has emerged as the presidential candidate of the APC in next year’s general elections, the question many Nigerians are asking is who will be the running mate of the former Head of State?
