The German parliament has re-elected Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday for her fourth term, believed to be her last.
It was gathered that the lawmakers voted 364-315 with nine abstentions for Merkel.
President Frank-Walter Steinmeier thereafter officially appointed her before she took the oath of office at 1100 GMT.
“I accept the vote,” Merkel said after taking her oath.
Local reports have said that by 1600 GMT, she will meet with her new cabinet, in which the SPD has wrested both the trophy posts of finance and foreign affairs.
Recall that in September, a rise in right-wing populist rise elections weakened all mainstream parties, denying her of a majority.
Thus, she went into alliance with the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPD).
