In a shocking and tragic incident, armed robbers invaded the Sunshine Homes estate in Abuja’s Lokogoma district, resulting in the death of retired Army Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere.
The assailants targeted the upscale estate under the cover of darkness.
According to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police, the robbers encountered Brigadier General Udokwere, who reportedly resisted them.
During the confrontation, he sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
In a statement, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
“The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Benneth Igweh, has expressed profound sorrow over the loss and extended his condolences to the bereaved family. This is a deeply regrettable and tragic event. We assure the family and the public that we will leave no stone unturned in our investigation. The perpetrators of this heinous crime will be apprehended and brought to justice,” Adeh said.
The police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, highlighting the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the case. “Our commitment is to ensure swift justice, urging anyone with information to come forward,” Adeh added.
“This attack has raised concerns about the security situation in Abuja, particularly in residential areas previously considered safe.
“The audacity of the robbers has left many residents in fear, prompting calls for enhanced security measures. The police authority has also increased the number of police officers on the road to tackle the menace.”
