Arsenal climbed to second place in the Premier League table following a commanding 5-2 win over West Ham United in Saturday’s late kick-off at the London Stadium.
The Gunners took full advantage of being the only top title contender in action, with most of the league’s big games scheduled for Sunday. The result leaves Arsenal on 25 points, narrowing the gap to league leaders Liverpool to six points. Liverpool will host Manchester City in a high-stakes clash on Sunday.
Arsenal opened the scoring with a header from Gabriel Magalhaes off a corner kick, setting the tone for a dominant first-half performance. Leandro Trossard doubled the lead, converting a precise low cross from Bukayo Saka.
Captain Martin Odegaard made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after a foul in the box, and Kai Havertz added a fourth with a powerful run and finish.
West Ham mounted a brief comeback through goals from Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Emerson Palmieri, reducing the deficit to 4-2. However, Arsenal sealed the victory when Bukayo Saka scored his second goal of the match from the penalty spot.
