Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has emerged victorious in Katsina, the home state of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Atiku defeated Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by polling 489,045 votes, while Tinubu garnered 482,283 votes.
Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) came in third with 69,386 votes.
The outcome of the election in Katsina has come as a surprise to many political analysts, who had predicted that Buhari’s home state would be a stronghold for the APC.
