Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has signed an executive order prohibiting various activities deemed harmful to public order and safety.
The order, effective February 28, 2024, bans open grazing, open defecation and urination, loitering, driving against traffic flow, abandoning vehicles on traffic lanes, overspeeding and overloading, indiscriminate waste disposal and hawking and selling goods on the roadside
Additionally, the order regulates public gatherings, business operations, and minors’ activities. It also prohibits acts contrary to public morality and decency, such as prostitution, indecent dressing, and disrespect for authority.
Violations will be punishable by fines (N20,000 to N500,000) or imprisonment (1-12 months). A task force, tribunals, committees, and arbitration panels have been established to enforce the order.
This executive order aims to maintain public order and safety in Benue State.
