Fresh allegations have emerged surrounding the incarceration of Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, with claims of bribery and preferential treatment during his time in Kirikiri prison. Chief Babalola Shabi, the Baale of Kirikiri Town, has accused Nigerian Correctional Service officials of facilitating a scheme that allowed the crossdresser to live outside the prison walls in luxury, okay.ng reports.
During a town hall meeting organized by the Lagos State Police Command, Shabi revealed that Bobrisky smuggled eight ATM cards into the custodial facility, allegedly using them to transfer ₦35 million through local POS operators. The funds were reportedly used to bribe prison officials for VIP treatment.
Shabi claimed that Bobrisky was housed in a private apartment outside the prison, rather than serving his sentence behind bars. He stated that his intervention led to the uncovering of the scandal, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission tracing the money trail after he summoned POS operators to his palace.
The Baale further disclosed that the property where Bobrisky stayed has been demolished, and implicated officials have been suspended. Both the DSS and EFCC have interrogated Shabi regarding the incident.
These revelations contradict earlier reports from a National Assembly panel, which stated that Bobrisky remained within the prison premises during his sentence. The crossdresser was sentenced to six months in 2024 for abusing the naira and released in August of the same year.
Adding to the controversy, social critic Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, shared an audio clip allegedly featuring Bobrisky, claiming he paid ₦15 million to EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges. The clip also suggested that a “godfather” and correctional staff ensured Bobrisky served his sentence in comfort outside the prison.
