The Borno State government has restated its ban on illegal mining, emphasizing the dire consequences for those who fail to comply.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Security in the state, Prof. Usman Tar, issued a statement in Maiduguri, urging residents to adhere to the ban.
The ban on mining activities was initially imposed on October 13 last year due to the “fragile” security situation in the state.
The government has now reinforced its commitment to enforcing the ban and warned that defaulters would face legal consequences.
“The military and security agencies are requested to be vigilant and apprehend defaulters. For the avoidance of doubt, the ban on illegal mining remains active in the light of the fragile security situation in Borno. Let’s enforce the ban. Any illegal miner caught will be prosecuted,” the statement read.
