President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein as the new Accountant-General of the Federation, filling the existing vacancy in the position.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Friday by Mohammed Ahmed, the Director of Communications at the Office of the Head of Civil Service.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, as the substantive Accountant-General of the Federation following the successful conduct of a selection process to fill the existing vacancy,” the statement noted.
“The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, CFR made this known today, Friday 19 May 2023 in Abuja, adding that the appointment is with effect from Thursday, May 18, 2023. The new appointee is to resume immediately.”
Prior to her appointment, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein held the position of Director of Finance and Accounts in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
Her expertise and experience in financial management have prepared her for the crucial role she now assumes.
Mrs. Madein takes over from Sylva Okolieaboh, who had been serving as the acting Accountant-General following the removal of Anamekwe Nwabuoku.
The change in leadership occurred as a result of the suspension of Ahmed Idris, who was the previous Accountant-General. Idris had been implicated in an alleged N80 billion fraud, prompting his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on May 16, 2022.
