President Muhammadu Buhari has strongly condemned the murder of Bolanle Raheem, a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, who was shot by a police officer on Christmas Day.
Buhari stated through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, that he was deeply shocked and saddened by the news and has directed the police to take “the strongest possible action” against the individuals responsible who are currently in detention.
Buhari also emphasized the need for law enforcement agencies, including the police, to implement reforms on weapons handling and to protect the rights of citizens.
The President expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and the NBA, and reassured that justice will be served in this case.
“In this hour of grief, the nation stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and the NBA,” he said.
“I assure that justice will be done in this case.”
