Nigerian-British boxer, Anthony Joshua has received commendations from President Muhammadu Buhari after his victory over Jermaine Franklin.
The President’s Special Assistant, Femi Adesina, in a statement on Saturday, lauded Joshua’s triumph over a formidable opponent.
According to the statement, President Buhari praised the resilient spirit of the gifted pugilist and extolled his never-say-die mentality.
The President noted that Joshua did not allow personal setbacks and obstacles to dent his spirit, adding that the former three-time world heavyweight champion has demonstrated that hard work, patience, dedication, persistence, and humility can lead to success.
President Buhari also commended Joshua for his courage and discipline both on and off the ring. He expressed optimism that the boxer’s success would inspire many upcoming professionals, particularly sportsmen and women, not to be discouraged by temporary defeats and setbacks.
The President prayed that Joshua’s success would be a stepping stone to one of the greatest comebacks in boxing history.
He wished the Nigerian-born boxer a bright future and a fulfilling career.
