The fate of over 2000 workers at federal government oil and gas agencies currently hangs in the balance as there are indications that the government may have concluded plans to release a number of them from active service, this month.
Staff to be affected are expected to come from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC), the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) among others.
In order to achieve this, some staff of the agencies serving at various stations across the country were redeployed to the head offices in Abuja and Lagos in the case of DPR. Sources at the some of these agencies have hinted hat the deployment exercise was actually a deliberate plan aimed at restructuring them for optimal performance.
The exercise comes as part of efforts by the new management of the agencies and the new administration of President Muhammad Buhari to clean the rot in the oil and gas industry of corruption.
