The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will swear in 87 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) on Monday, as part of the formal commencement of the 2024/2025 legal year at the Supreme Court, Okay.ng reports.
In a statement released on Friday by Festus Akande, Director of Information and Public Relations, it was announced that the ceremony will take place in the main courtroom of the Supreme Court.
Justice Kekere-Ekun will also deliver a state-of-the-Judiciary address, highlighting the performance of the Supreme Court and the Nigerian judiciary during the 2023/2024 legal year.
The event will also feature speeches from leading stakeholders in the justice sector, including the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), among others. These speeches will focus on the state of the justice sector in Nigeria.
The Supreme Court had commenced its annual vacation on 22nd July 2024, and resumed sitting on 23rd September 2024. However, the formal ceremony to mark the beginning of the new legal year is being held in accordance with tradition.
The programme is set to begin at 10:00 am in the Supreme Court’s main courtroom.
