The Kaduna state High Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing on the bail application of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky till August 2.
The court fixed the date following the arraignment of El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, by the state government on Wednesday.
The Shiite leader and his wife were charged with eight counts bordering on culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, and disturbance of public peace, among other allegations.
El-Zakzaky, and his wife had earlier arrived the court amid tight security over fear of protest by shiite members.
The Kaduna state Police Command also blocked all the roads leading to the court, diverting vehicles to alternative routes, ahead of their arraignment.
The police had stated that the move is to avert any breakdown of law and order by the Shiite group whose members have been carrying out series of protests in Kaduna and Abuja, to demand their leader’s release.
