Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has announced that the main access road to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals will now be named Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road, in honour of President Bola Tinubu.

The announcement was made on Thursday during President Tinubu’s visit to the massive refinery complex, which coincided with the commissioning of the Deep Sea Port Access Road, a strategic route connecting the Lekki Deep Sea Port, the Free Trade Zone, and the Dangote Refinery to the Sagamu–Benin Expressway via Ijebu Ode.

Okay.ng reports that Dangote praised Tinubu as the visionary behind the Free Trade Zone during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State, saying the refinery project would not have been possible without the enabling environment the President helped initiate.

“The Dangote refinery complex is, in many ways, your brainchild,” Dangote told the President during the tour. “Mr President, let me just say one thing — the main road leading into our refinery is now to be known as Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road.”

The declaration drew applause from dignitaries present, as President Tinubu rose to shake hands with the billionaire industrialist in an emotional moment that underscored their long-standing relationship.

Dangote also revealed the scale of the Group’s contribution to national infrastructure development. In 2023 alone, the Dangote Group paid N450 billion in taxes, and is committing N900 billion to road construction across the country.

“This road,” he said, referring to the newly commissioned access route, “is just one of many projects being delivered under the Federal Government’s tax credit scheme.”

The Dangote Group, which now holds the distinction of being Nigeria’s highest tax-paying company, contributes more to the national purse than all banks in the country combined, according to Dangote.
