Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has announced the complete withdrawal of the military from the Okuama community, allowing displaced residents to return home.
The military had taken over the community after 17 Army personnel were killed in March, causing many residents to flee.
The governor made the announcement during a press conference at the Government House in Asaba, stating that an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp has been set up for a smooth resettlement of the displaced residents. This move is expected to enable the people of Okuama to begin rebuilding their community.
The withdrawal of the military marks a significant step towards restoring normalcy to the community, which has been affected by the violence and displacement.
The state government’s efforts to address the situation and support the affected residents are ongoing.
