Professor Yusuf Saidu, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research, Innovation, and Development at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), was fatally shot yesterday while traveling to Kaduna State on official duty.
The tragic incident occurred around Kucheri in Zamfara State when Professor Saidu’s vehicle, an official blue-colored Hilux, was mistaken for a police vehicle by bandits being chased by soldiers.
Okay.ng gathered that the bandits opened fire on the vehicle, killing Professor Saidu instantly and injuring his driver. The unfortunate event has sent shockwaves through the academic community, with tributes pouring in for the distinguished professor.
Professor Saidu was a respected figure in the field of nutritional biochemistry, with numerous publications and patents to his credit. He held various positions at UDUS, including Director of Research, Innovation, and Development, and was a member of the University Council. His research interests included oxidative stress, diabetes mellitus, and infant nutrition.
