Sean Diddy Combs has admitted to assaulting his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in 2016.
The US rapper released a video statement via his social media handles, where he also extended an apology to Cassie.
The admission follows the emergence of a hotel surveillance video dated March 5, 2016, which shows Diddy kicking, hitting, and dragging Cassie.
In the footage, Cassie is seen wearing a black sweater and calling an elevator in the now-closed Intercontinental Hotel in Los Angeles.
Diddy, clad in a towel, is captured chasing her down the hallway, striking her, and yanking her by the hair before throwing her to the ground.
Despite the video’s resurfacing, the Los Angeles district attorney’s office has stated that Diddy will not face assault charges due to the statute of limitations, as the incident occurred in 2016.
Amid the public backlash, Diddy has now released a heartfelt monologue in which he apologized to Cassie, acknowledging the inexcusable nature of his actions.
“I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I was disgusted then when I did it,” the rapper stated, adding that he was “truly sorry.”
The video corroborates several claims made by Cassie in a lawsuit filed in November 2023, which has since been settled.
In the lawsuit, Cassie accused Diddy of trafficking, raping, and beating her on numerous occasions over a span of 10 years.
