Popular rapper Drake has suffered a significant financial setback after losing a $565,000 bet on Tyson Fury to defeat Oleksandr Usyk in their high-stakes boxing match in Saudi Arabia on Saturday evening.
The Canadian rapper, known for his penchant for placing substantial wagers on sporting events, was backing ‘The Gypsy King’ in the bout.
However, the match ended in disappointment for Drake when Fury lost to his Ukrainian opponent by split decision. Had his bet succeeded, Drake would have netted over £800,000.
Usyk’s impressive performance in Riyadh not only thwarted Drake’s hopes but also earned the Ukrainian the title of undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. The split decision victory added Fury’s WBC title to Usyk’s collection of WBA, IBF, and IBO belts.
This latest loss adds to Drake’s history of high-profile bets with mixed results. While he secured a massive £3 million payday after betting on Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann in London in 2022, his luck with bookmakers has been inconsistent.
