One Uwakwe Osita has been arraigned by the EFCC in Enugu before Justice C.O. Ajah of Enugu State High Court for issuing Dud Cheque of N2,100,000.
He is facing a three-count charge.
Uwakwe was said to have issued three Good Shepherd Microfinance Bank Limited Cheques to settle a financial obligation in favour of the petitioner.
The petitioner had reported that the cheques when presented for payment within three months were dishonoured due to insufficient fund.
What the law says
The offence contravenes Section1 (1) (a) and (b) (i) & (ii) of the Dishonoured Cheques (Offences) Act. Cap D11 of the Revised Edition (Laws of the Federation of Nigeria) Act,2004 and punishable under same Act.
When the case was called up, prosecution Counsel, B.N.Obasi-Eze, asked that the defendant be docked to take his plea.
Uwakwe pleaded not guilty to the charges, necessitating the defence counsel, J.E.Orji, to move motion for the bail of the defendant which was opposed by the prosecution counsel.
The accused was granted bail in the sum of N1,000,000 and one surety in like sum.
The judge said the surety must be a civil servant that must be residing within the jurisdiction of the court.
