Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, on Saturday, paid a Christmas homage to President Bola Tinubu at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos.
The governor, who spoke to journalists after the meeting, said he came to convey the season’s greetings and best wishes from the people of Enugu State to the president.
He also said he discussed with the president the impact of some of his policies on the development of Enugu State, especially in attracting foreign direct investment.
Mbah said the foreign exchange unification and the removal of the fuel subsidy have opened up opportunities for investors to come to Enugu State, which has played a consequential role in the economic development of Nigeria.
He said his administration is committed to harnessing the resources of the state and mobilising its domestic revenue to achieve its N300bn target for its internally generated revenue in 2024.
He said he has proposed an ambitious budget of N521.5bn for the 2024 fiscal year, which he signed into law last Wednesday, after presenting it to the state House of Assembly on December 5.
He expressed confidence that his government would realise the revenue projections and deliver on its promises to the people of Enugu State.
He said, “Essentially, I came to convey warm greetings and season’s best wishes on behalf of the government and the good people of the Enugu State to Mr President.
“I also seized the opportunity to discuss, once again, with Mr. President the impact of some of the policies he has initiated on some of the things we are doing in Enugu State, particularly as it relates to the attraction of Foreign Direct Investment.
“You know that foreign exchange unification and the removal of the fuel subsidiary have essentially meant that a number of Foreign Direct Investment are flowing towards our direction in Enugu State.”
He added, “We are poised to harness the resources. Enugu has played a consequential role in the economic development of Nigeria.
“So, what we are simply doing is bringing her back to that preeminent position, making sure that we harness all the resources we have within Enugu and to make sure we also mobilise our domestic revenue.
“So, yes, we have proposed an ambitious budget and made ambitious revenue projections. But we are convinced that we are going to realise those revenues.”
