Philip Shaibu, the former deputy governor of Edo State, has declared his support for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, in the upcoming governorship election. Shaibu, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), justified his decision, stating that he wants to support a “homeboy” who understands the plight of the people.
He explained that the governorship race started with three homeboys – himself, Okpebholo, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP). Shaibu emphasized that he is not supporting the PDP candidate, who he considers an outsider and a godson of the current governor, Godwin Obaseki.
Despite being a member of the PDP, Shaibu’s support for the opposition candidate is not anti-party, he claimed, citing Governor Obaseki’s statement that everyone has the right to support whoever they want.
