A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at the bustling Buni Yadi livestock market in Yobe State, Nigeria, on Friday, injuring a young girl. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM, according to eyewitnesses.
Captain Muhammad Shehu, spokesman for the Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the explosion and reported that another IED was discovered and safely detonated by the Army. He stated that the injured girl is receiving treatment at a local health facility.
Shehu emphasized that the incident was a planted IED and not a suicide bombing. The market, located 54 kilometers from the state capital, Damaturu, has been a target of Boko Haram insurgents in the past.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
