The Federal Government has suspended senior officers in charge of the Maximum and Minimum Custodial Centres in Kirikiri, Lagos State, following an audio leak indicating that crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, who was sentenced to six months in jail, was allegedly given an apartment outside the custodial facility, Okay.ng reports.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), confirmed the suspension of the officers to allow for a thorough investigation into the allegations.
The suspension follows a probe initiated by Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Wednesday. Ahmed assured the public that the findings of the investigation would be made available once concluded.
The officers suspended include:
- Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri.
- Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), in charge of the Maximum Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri.
Additionally, ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, an officer at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Afikpo, Ebonyi State, was also suspended for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate outside the facility.
In another case, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje-Abuja, was suspended for reportedly receiving money on behalf of an inmate.
