Google has unveiled two innovative search features, Circle to Search and Multi-Search in Lens, both powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
These new functionalities aim to enhance user engagement with search processes, offering a more natural and intuitive experience.
Elizabeth Reid, Google’s vice president, explained that these updates are the outcome of generative AI testing, showcasing the company’s commitment to refining the search function.
“For instance, you can search with your voice, or you can search with your camera using Lens,” she highlighted.
“And recently, Google has been testing how generative AI’s ability to understand natural language makes it possible to ask questions on Search in a more natural way. Ultimately, we envision a future where you can search anyway, anywhere you want.”
Circle to Search
This feature allows users to perform searches with a simple gesture, tapping, or selecting a text or image on their phones. The AI-powered Circle to Search provides information about the selected content within the app, facilitating a more convenient exploration of ideas or trends across the web.
Alistair Pott, Google’s director of product management, Search App, emphasized the significance of Circle to Search, stating, “We think it is a meaningful step forward in helping people express their needs and stay in their context.”
Multi-Search in Lens
Complementing Circle to Search, Multi-Search in Lens introduces a more natural and intuitive way for users to express their search needs.
This feature, combined with Circle to Search, allows for a seamless and comprehensive exploration of content through a combination of text, images, and gestures.
As Google advances these search functionalities, it aims to create a future where users can search effortlessly in various ways and locations.
The tech giant continues to push the boundaries of AI to make the search experience more personalized, versatile, and user-friendly.
