Google’s Gemini has unveiled two significant updates: Custom Gems, a feature enabling users to personalize the AI tool, and Imagen 3, an advanced image generation model.
These additions aim to enhance user experience by providing more tailored and sophisticated AI capabilities, according to a statement by Dave Citron, Senior Director of Product Management at Gemini Experiences.
Citron announced that Gemini Advanced subscribers will now have the ability to create Custom Gems, which are personalized AI experts designed to cater to specific topics or tasks.
In addition, the updated image generation capabilities powered by the latest Imagen 3 model will be available to all users.
“We’re rolling out new features that we previewed at Google I/O. Gems, a new feature that lets you customise Gemini to create your own personal AI experts on any topic you want, are now available for Gemini Advanced, Business, and Enterprise users. And our new image generation model, Imagen 3, is now available across Gemini, Gemini Advanced, Business, and Enterprise,” Citron said.
The new Custom Gems feature will allow users to create specialized AI assistants by writing instructions, naming the Gem, and interacting with it to achieve specific goals.
Google emphasized that these custom Gems can assist with a variety of tasks, from project management to generating creative ideas, or even refining social media content.
“Your Gem can also remember a detailed set of instructions to help you save time on tedious, repetitive, or difficult tasks,” the company noted, highlighting the efficiency and versatility of the new tool.
In addition to creating custom Gems, Google has introduced a set of premade Gems designed to cater to various user needs.
These include a learning coach for breaking down complex topics, a brainstormer for generating ideas, a career guide for professional development, and a writing editor for improving text quality.
The coding partner Gem is also available, offering assistance with coding projects and skill development.
These Gems are accessible on both desktop and mobile devices for Gemini Advanced, Business, and Enterprise users in over 150 countries and in most languages.
Alongside the Custom Gems, Google has enhanced its Imagen 3 image generation capabilities, which are now being rolled out to all users of Gemini apps.
The company stated that Imagen 3 would provide more advanced and creative image generation while adhering to ethical guidelines that prohibit the creation of photorealistic, identifiable individuals, depictions of minors, or excessively violent, gory, or sexual content.
“We’ll continue to listen to feedback from early access Gemini Advanced users as we keep improving,” Google added, noting that the rollout of Imagen 3 will be gradual, with plans to expand availability to more users and languages soon.
