A former governor of Cross River state, Donald Duke has disclosed that he might contest for the highest political office in Nigeria come 2019.
Duke stated this at a symposium titled: ‘Young and Emerging Leaders’ which held in Lagos on Tuesday.
The former governor said he still possesses the energy to run for the office of the President of Nigeria if the opportunity comes calling.
Political appointment
While answering a question from one of the participants on why he has not contested or sought appointment after leaving office in 2007, he said: “I am a hands-on person. I am not wired to sit and contribute like Senators or House of Reps members do.
“I believe in execution and the only position I can achieve that is in the office of the president of Nigeria. At my age, I think I still have some energy left in me and I might consider it if the opportunity presents itself.”
Godfatherism
“God-fatherism grows out of mentorship, they are there to set you on a path. But do not let them enslave you.
“As someone who has played in this space, if you don’t fight for it, you won’t get it. Young people have the numbers, you can make it happen.”
