The Department of State Services (DSS) has been sued by Ifeanyi Ubah, the chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Limited.
The oil magnate filed a suit in a Federal High Court in Lagos charging the DSS with unlawful detention and an infringement of his right to liberty and movement.
According to the counsel for the plaintiff, Ifeoma Esom, her client had been unlawfully held since May 6.
She urged the judge to order the DSS to release him and prevent the secret police from coercing him to accede to “whatever conditions they impose on him in exchange for his freedom.”
The judge ordered the presentation of Ubah before him on Friday, May 12.
The DSS had arrested Ubah on Friday over his alleged engagements in acts inimical to national security.
They accused him of stealing, diversion and illegal sale of petroleum products stored in his tank farm by the Nigeria Petroleum Products Corporation (NNPC).
