Fuad Kayode Laguda of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the bye-election conducted in Surulere Federal Constituency 1 of Lagos State on Saturday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that a total of 11,801 valid votes were cast, with 138 votes rejected, bringing the total vote cast to 11,939.
Laguda secured a resounding victory by obtaining 11,203 votes, defeating his closest rival, Jerry Afemikhe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who managed to garner only 278 votes. The candidate of the Labour Party, Adeola Adebanjo, trailed behind with 240 votes.
Prof. Adebayo Oladipo, the INEC Returning Officer for the election in the constituency, disclosed that Laguda emerged victorious in all the polling units within the constituency.
The declaration of the results took place at the collation center on Saturday, with Prof. Oladipo officially declaring Laguda as the winner.
“I hereby certify that Fuad Kayode Laguda of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and is returned elected,” Prof. Oladipo announced.
