Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has introduced the Odatiwa Women’s Initiative’s Grant, a financial empowerment program aimed at supporting 1,000 low-income women across the state.
The governor officially inaugurated the grant distribution on Saturday in Akure as part of activities marking the 2025 International Women’s Day, themed “Accelerate Action.” The initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to gender equality, inclusiveness, and economic empowerment for women.
Speaking at the event, Aiyedatiwa emphasized that women’s economic empowerment is crucial for fostering business growth, leadership opportunities, and overall societal progress.
“The economic empowerment of women is a top priority for this administration. We believe that when women are supported, families flourish, communities grow, and society progresses. That is why we are rolling out initiatives like this grant to provide women with the financial backing needed to expand their businesses and improve their economic status,” he stated.
Reaffirming his commitment to women’s welfare, the governor assured that his administration would continue to implement policies that uplift women, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. He also pledged to ensure greater female participation in decision-making processes at all levels.
Aiyedatiwa further expressed appreciation for the role of women in the state’s political and socio-economic development, particularly their contributions to his victory in the November 16, 2024, governorship election.
“Women played a vital role in my victory at the polls, and I sincerely thank them for their loyalty and commitment. Our administration will remain dedicated to addressing issues affecting women and the girl-child, ensuring they have equal opportunities to reach their full potential,” he added.
Dr. Seun Osamaye, Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs and convener of the event, described the initiative as a significant step toward bridging the gender gap in Ondo State.
“This initiative is timely and impactful, reflecting the Aiyedatiwa administration’s dedication to ensuring that no woman is left behind. By empowering women, we are not just supporting individuals but also strengthening families, communities, and the entire state’s economy,” she said.
Princess Oladunni Odu, former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), encouraged women to be bold and proactive in leadership and economic advancement. She urged them to seize opportunities, break societal barriers, and contribute actively to governance and development.
In a show of appreciation, Miss Temiloluwa Okin, a student of Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Akure, thanked the governor for his support, particularly highlighting the provision of free transportation for students and the payment of West African Examinations Council (WAEC) fees.
