The Kaduna State House of Assembly has established a committee tasked with scrutinizing the financial records of the state during the tenure of Nasir el-Rufai, the immediate past governor.
The committee’s mandate includes a comprehensive examination of loans, grants, and project implementations spanning the period from 2015 to 2023, corresponding to el-Rufai’s tenure as governor.
Governor Uba Sani, during a town hall meeting on March 30, disclosed that his administration inherited a substantial debt burden from the previous administration.
He stated that the inherited debt amounted to $587 million, N85 billion, and included 115 contractual liabilities.
Addressing concerns over the state’s financial standing, Governor Sani emphasized that his administration had not incurred any additional debt in the past nine months.
However, he underscored the significant impact of the existing debt burden on the state’s financial resources, particularly its share of the monthly federation allocation.
More to come later…
