Governor Abba Yusuf has issued a blanket ban on all public demonstrations and imposed stringent restrictions on public gatherings in the state. The move is aimed at preventing a potential breakdown of law and order, according to a statement released by the Governor’s Media and Publicity Director, Sanusi Bature, on Wednesday.
Citing credible intelligence, the government alleges that opposition figures in Kano plan to sponsor protests and incite chaos under the guise of supporting the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
The Governor, exercising his authority as the chief security officer of the state, has directed security agencies to apprehend, detain, and prosecute individuals participating in demonstrations. The ban affects all forms of public gatherings, including protests, demonstrations, and processions.
The government has warned that individuals found engaging in such activities on the streets of Kano will be promptly apprehended.
