The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano on Saturday placed a hold on its planned rally, scheduled to hold in Gaya town, citing security challenges.
Chairman of the party in the state, Mas’ud Doguwa, stated this at a news conference in Kano.
During the suspended rally, the party has planned to receive the governorship candidate of the Democratic Peoples Movement in the 2015 governorship election, Bashir Ishaq, and his supporters into the PDP fold.
Doguwa, in his words said the party postponed the rally until further notice, following several phone calls, which the leadership of the PDP received from concerned stakeholders.
He said, “We received numerous calls urging us to respect the advice of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Rabiu Yusuf, who had earlier told us to shelve the event citing security challenges.
“PDP is a law abiding party, it has no record of misunderstanding with security agencies. So, we want to remain law-abiding.”
