Kano State Police Commissioner, Muhammed Usaini Gumel, has announced that the police command will arrange a football match between its team and a group of reformed criminals, as part of their efforts to facilitate rehabilitation.
During a press conference where he presented 108 suspects arrested for various offenses during the recent Sallah festivities, the Commissioner revealed the unique approach being taken to encourage positive change among former thugs.
“We are committed to implementing innovative methods to ensure the transformation of these individuals and their reintegration into society. To achieve this, we will be organizing sports competitions involving them, including a football match and an indoor match,” stated Commissioner Gumel.
The Commissioner emphasized the need to address the growing issue of thuggery, particularly within the Kano metropolis. To combat this problem, the police command has developed operational strategies that involve comprehensive intelligence gathering to detect early warning signs. Additionally, they have deployed their resources effectively to tackle all forms of criminal activities across the state.
As part of their efforts, the police commissioner released a list of identified suspected leaders of thuggery, inviting them to report to the nearest police station voluntarily. Failure to comply will result in their declaration as wanted criminals, and the police will spare no effort in apprehending them, ensuring they face the full force of the law. The individuals listed include Burakita of Dorayi Karama Quarters, Messi of Kan Tudun Dala, Dan Boss of Dala Makabarta, Ado Runto of Tudun Fulani, Baffa Killer of Mazaunar Tanko Quarters, and Kamilu Duna of Adakawa Quarters, among others.
This proactive approach by the Kano State Police demonstrates their commitment to reforming former criminals through engaging activities while simultaneously addressing the rise in thuggery within the state. By utilizing sports competitions as a tool for rehabilitation, the police hope to create an environment that encourages positive change and discourages criminal behavior.
