The Lagos State Government has announced the closure of 13 markets located in the Mile 12 and Ketu areas of the state. The closure, which occurred on Thursday night, was enforced due to repeated violations of the state’s waste management laws, okay.ng reports.
The affected markets include Erukan Market in Mile 12 and Oja Oba Market in Ketu. According to the government, these markets have consistently failed to adhere to proper waste disposal practices, with waste being dumped on roads and highways, contravening the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.
The state government stated that this action is aimed at improving public health and restoring order within these densely populated commercial areas. Market operators have been called upon to take responsibility for ensuring proper waste management in the future to facilitate a cleaner and safer environment.
