After two successful seasons with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Lionel Messi has officially announced his departure from the French club.
The news came shortly after PSG confirmed that the Argentine superstar would be leaving at the end of the current season.
Since joining PSG on a free transfer from Barcelona in 2021, Messi has made a significant impact on the team’s success.
Under his guidance, PSG secured back-to-back French Ligue 1 titles, establishing themselves as a formidable force in domestic football.
During his time with the Parisians, Messi showcased his exceptional skills, netting a total of 32 goals in 74 appearances for the club.
Expressing his gratitude in a statement to PSG’s official website, Messi extended his appreciation to the club, he said: “I would like to thank the club, the city of Paris and its people for these two years.
“I wish you all the best for the future.”
In a separate interview, Messi emphasized his satisfaction with representing PSG and expressed his admiration for his teammates.
“I am happy to have been able to represent PSG – I really enjoyed playing on this team and with such good players. I want to thank the club for a wonderful experience in Paris,” he said.
Following his departure from PSG, speculation has been rife regarding Messi’s next destination. Several reports have linked him with a potential return to his beloved former club, Barcelona, igniting hope among the fans of the Catalan giants.
Additionally, there have been murmurs about the possibility of a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States, where many legendary footballers have made their mark.
The Saudi Pro League has also emerged as a potential option for the 34-year-old, with its growing status and financial allure.
