The Nigerian Army has appointed Lieutenant Colonel Onyinyechi Anele as the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, making her the first woman to occupy the prestigious role in the history of the force.
The appointment, which takes effect from April 22, 2025, marks a significant milestone for gender inclusion in the Nigerian military’s top leadership structure.
Anele, a member of Direct Regular Course 15, succeeds Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre.
A fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Lt. Col. Anele brings a wealth of experience in military communications. Before her elevation, she completed a six-month strategic course at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, after which she was posted to the Department of Civil-Military Relations.
She has also served as a Public Relations Officer in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff, and was attached to the Department of Civil-Military Relations until her new appointment.
