Chidimma Adetshina, the newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, has publicly disclosed her decision to delete her X account, formerly known as Twitter, emphasizing the detrimental impact of online criticism on her mental health.
Adetshina shared her experiences in a recent interview on Arise 360, revealing the challenges she faced in the digital sphere following controversy during her participation in the Miss South Africa pageant.
The beauty queen, aged 23, encountered significant backlash online, which intensified after the South African Department of Home Affairs (DHA) accused her mother of fraud and identity theft.
This accusation not only compounded the scrutiny Adetshina was under but also heightened the harsh commentary she received on social media.
Reflecting on her ordeal, Chidimma expressed that the relentless criticism was overwhelming and had a severe impact on her mental well-being.
“I had to delete it because I felt like it was too much for me. I’m a comment reader, so I read each and every comment,” she stated during the interview.
“For me, I could spend 80% of my day reading comments, and it became toxic.”
