Nigerian singer Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has delighted fans with the release of his latest single, ‘Chop Time, No Friend’.
Taking to social media on Wednesday, the artist officially announced the song’s availability to the public.
In ‘Chop Time, No Friend’, the Banku pioneer implores individuals to remain focused in life, steering clear of distractions.
Mr Eazi explains the meaning behind the track, stating, “It is like saying, Be in the moment. Like when you are eating, you are focusing only on your food. You are eating first. It is almost selfish in a way. When it is chop time, I do not have a friend,” as he shared with Rolling Stone.
The song’s vibrant and colorful music video accompanies its release, adding visual allure to the auditory experience.
‘Chop Time, No Friend’ serves as the lead track from Mr Eazi’s forthcoming debut album, a 16-track project set to be unveiled on October 27, 2023.
With captivating lyrics such as “Chop time no friend/ If I dey chop my woman I no dey look another man face/ Chop time no friend/ If I dey chop my mulla I no dey look another man face (eh eh)/ Anything I touch dey enter/ I’m continental/ Sentimental/ I’m monumental kpere kpere,” Mr Eazi showcases his distinct musical style and infectious energy.
Produced by KillBeatz and Andre Vibez, ‘Chop Time, No Friend’ showcases the fusion of talent and creativity.
The accompanying music video was skillfully crafted by Allison Swank Owen, a US-based filmmaker, adding visual depth to the song’s message.
Mr Eazi’s rise to stardom in the music industry can be traced back to his 2015 single, ‘Holl Up’, which garnered significant attention and acclaim.
He is also recognized as the pioneer of Banku Music, a genre that seamlessly blends Ghanaian highlife with Nigerian chord progressions and patterns.
