President Muhammadu Buhari has said the country is tackling unemployment through heavy investments in the agricultural sector of the economy.
Buhari said this in the State House on Tuesday while receiving Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Boukekri Rmilli.
According to Buhari, his administration is investing massively in agriculture, expressing joy that the youths are embracing it instead of white collar jobs.
“We are trying very hard to provide jobs, for our youths. We are investing heavily in agriculture,” the president added.
“Following the uncertainty in the oil market and the huge unemployment situation in the country, we chose to put our fate in agriculture.
“I am glad that our young people are accepting agriculture instead of waiting for white-collar jobs.
“They are out there sweating it out in the sun, making a living. Agriculture is the way to go, even when we are realising this almost belatedly.”
In addition, he noted that Nigeria will soon send a team to visit Tunisia to identify sectors where the countries can partner.
