A former economist and accountant, Olabode Agusto, founder of AGUSTO & CO Limited, Nigeria’s first credit rating company, is dead, Okay.ng reports.
He died at the age of 68, but the cause of death is still unknown.
Agusto was a distinguished economist, chartered accountant, and business strategist, who had a rich and diverse professional career in both the private and public sectors.
He also worked as an independent researcher and consultant on economics, finance and business strategy, and mentored business leaders on how to build businesses that deliver value to shareholders while balancing the interests of other stakeholders.
He was passionate about speaking engagements on politics, and other economics matters.
He was an adviser to several companies in Nigeria, including Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, where he served as a non-executive director until April 2022.
He also held various positions such as assistant vice-president in Citibank Nigeria, a Partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and director-general and adviser (budget matters) to former President Olusegun Obasanjo during his second term in office.
He also served on the boards of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), the Shell Nigeria Pension Fund, and was a member of the monetary policy committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He established Agusto & Co. in 1992 and led the company as managing director for 11 years.
