A tragic accident took place on Sunday at Ojuelegba bridge in Lagos, Nigeria, when a container-laden truck fell on a commercial bus, resulting in the death of nine passengers including two children.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) arrived on the scene to conduct rescue and evacuation efforts.
According to the permanent secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the bus was picking up passengers when the truck lost control and fell off the side of the bridge.
Despite the efforts of the agency, only one adult woman was extricated alive and taken to a trauma center for treatment.
The Nigeria police have launched an investigation into the removal of the barriers on the bridge, which were aimed at preventing trucks from ascending.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and has assured the public that rescue and evacuation efforts are ongoing.
The agency is also reminding drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic laws to avoid similar incidents in the future.
