Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has replied the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Prince Dayo Adeyeye, saying there is no press statement from the party warning him against running for President.
Fayose had declared his intention to contest for the office come 2019 in a letter to the leadership of the party.
Fayose, in reaction to Adeyeye’s interview that the party had zoned its presidency to the north at the non-elective convention in Abuja, said the party stated it clearly that ‘without prejudice’, which means he has the constitutional right to contest for the number one political office in the land.
“No Press statement from PDP warning Fayose against running for President!!
“While releasing its zoning formula, the PDP said:”Without prejudice to the rights of other members from the south, we hereby zone our presidential ticket to the north”
“Note: Without prejudice!!That means other interested members of the party from other zones who feel dissatisfied with the zoning formula or have an ambition to pursue can still do so hence Fayose in his declaration letter said “Without Prejudice to the party,” he posted.
The governor added that ” our aggrieved man is a lawyer and I expected him to understand simple legal term.
“Anyway, our man only expressed his personal opinion, not speaking for PDP.Our man just helped Newspapers to sell their headline and we understood his game plan.
“Let it be on record that No official press statement from the PDP warning Fayose against running for President because the party has no such right under the law.
“APC zoned its ticket to the North in 2015 yet Okorocha, the chairman of the APC Governors Forum contested for president,” he concluded.
